Research School

Research Schools are a network of schools responsible for generating and sharing best practice in education, including supporting the use of evidence to improve teaching practice. A collaboration of the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) and Institute for Effective Education (IEE), Research Schools work with other schools in the area to:

  • Encourage the use of evidence-based programmes and practices
  • Provide training and professional development for senior leaders and teachers on how to improve classroom practice
  • Support schools to develop innovative ways of improving teaching and learning, and providing them with the expertise to evaluate their impact

Spencer’s Wyndham Academy was selected in 2017 to host the Derby Research School, responsible for generating and sharing best practice across the Derby Opportunity Area. Located in an area of significant social and economic challenge, status as a Research School has allowed staff at Wyndham to translate evidence-based research into practice, further improving standards within this already outstanding school.
