“A love and passion for learning so that every pupil wants to succeed’
Wyndham is an exceptional primary academy, and is valued by parents and community partners in the Alvaston part of Derby accordingly.
Recognised as ‘outstanding’ since 2014, Wyndham has a determination of outstanding across all judgement categories. Inspectors concluded that pupils make ‘excellent progress’, ‘receive an excellent start to their education’, and that ‘the quality of teaching is outstanding’.
Wyndham continues to build on this record of excellence. The pride that teachers take in children’s learning and attainment is visible across the school. Teaching and pedagogy are now nationally regarded, and in 2017 teachers Nicol Wifield and Michelle Garton were recognised as New Teacher of the Year and Teacher of the Year respectively (Pearson Awards).
In 2017 Wyndham was recognised as the Research School within the Derby Opportunity Area. As part of the national network of schools, staff are now supporting the extension of teaching research and best practice across the region.
While the success story at Wyndham attracts national attention, the focus in school remains strongly on the community. Close to the centre of Derby city, Wyndham has a working farm, a Forest School, the largest parent volunteer body across the trust; and most of all, children who enjoy every day in school.
