“Parents recognise the improvements made to the quality of their children’s education.”
A secondary academy in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, Long Field is judged as ‘good’ across all inspection categories. School strengths include excellent results; with Long Field amongst the top ten highest performing secondary schools in Leicestershire in 2016-17, and a notably supportive local community.
The standard of teaching now in place at the school is the result of an impressive three-year programme of improvement led by Principal Chris Haggett. Chris joined Long Field in 2015, at which time the school also became a member of the Spencer Academies Trust.
Subsequent assessment determined the school to ‘require improvement’ although stronger elements including the quality of teaching and learning and leadership were acknowledged. Months after his appointment, Ofsted concluded that the Principal had ‘led the recent transformation of many aspects of the school with skill and determination.”
Long Field’s journey in the years since has continued to impress. Results improved within the first year of Trust membership, and areas identified by inspectors for improvement were addressed, leading to the determination of ‘good’ across all inspection categories recorded in February 2018.
Inspectors noted, “Long Field Academy has continued to improve since the last inspection. Pupils’ progress and attainment are now good,” and were impressed by the value that parents placed on the school.
