The Spencer Academies Trust welcomes St Giles School

The Spencer Academies Trust is delighted to announce completion of the Trust membership process for St Giles School.

Located near the Derwent/Chaddesden area of Derby, St Giles is closely located with Ofsted outstanding Spencer school, Wyndham Primary Academy, and newly opened Spencer school, Chellaston Fields Spencer Academy.

The only primary special school in Derby City, St Giles is an inclusive school that offers specialist knowledge and skills to meet the needs of its pupils (aged 4 to 11 years), with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, including those with Moderate Learning Difficulties, Severe Learning Difficulties and Autistic Spectrum Disorders.

Following inspection in December 2016, the school was awarded ‘Outstanding’ status, with inspectors commenting on teachers’ ‘excellent understanding of individual needs’, allowing pupils to make ‘striking progress’.

Clive Lawrence, Headteacher at St Giles School, said: “St Giles and the Spencer Academies Trust are firmly committed to providing a range of inclusive opportunities for children in both mainstream and special schools. This is an exciting and innovative partnership, bringing together the very best teaching strategies from special and mainstream schools to provide a world-class education system.

Such collaboration will also allow skills, knowledge and expertise to be shared across the Trust. There are very few Academy structures like this, which enables us to set the footprint for creating aspirational opportunities for all children, regardless of their needs and background.”

Spencer Academies Trust CEO, Paul West, also commented: “I am delighted to welcome St Giles to our family of schools. Spencer Academies Trust and St Giles have already established a strong working relationship and I believe that bringing together our collective experience and expertise is an opportunity to deliver an inclusive and outstanding education for all children in all of our academies, and by working collaboratively, create even more opportunities for our fantastic staff teams and governing bodies”.
