The Spencer Academies Trust has released detailed plans for a new primary school to open in Hilton in September 2019. The school will be known as The Mease Spencer Primary Academy.
On completion, The Mease will provide an education for 210 boys and girls aged five to 11.
The school has been designed in response to the demand for school places, with hundreds of new homes to be built in the area and existing primaries nearing capacity. The Mease is being developed in partnership with Hilton Primary, the existing school serving Hilton.
The Trust hopes that The Mease will build on the exceptional reputation of other Spencer primary academies in Derby, including the nationally regarded Wyndham Primary Academy.
An ‘outstanding’ Ofsted school, Wyndham is located in neighbouring Alvaston, and is home to the Derby Research School. Staff at the Research School support education research and the sharing of best practice across the city.
Spencer Director of Primary Education Angela O’Brien said she was enjoying every step of designing another new school for the expanding communities south of Derby. “This is an opportunity to build the school around the children’s needs,” she explained. “We are very excited to work with local parents and teachers including at Hilton Primary, and to bring The Mease to life. The Mease will be a wonderful environment in which to explore and implement our core principles and curriculum, and an outstanding school for the community”
Julia Hart has been appointed as the Principal designate of the Mease, after 10 years as deputy at Hilton Primary School. Mrs Hart said: ‘I’m really pleased and excited to be leading the opening of The Mease, and can’t wait to show school plans to some of our prospective parents and children.”
A consultation process on the plans opens 5 July 2018, and will close 16 August, giving local parents and stakeholders an opportunity to have a voice during the planning stage. Details are available through a dedicated website at www.themeaseacademy.co.uk.
