Announcing our newest school to open September 2019

We have just released plans for the £6m Chellaston Fields Spencer Academy, opening in September 2019.

On completion, Chellaston Fields will provide an education for 210 boys and girls aged five to 11.

The school has been designed in response to the demand for school places, with hundreds of new homes to be built in the Chellaston area, and existing primaries nearing capacity.

The Trust hopes that Chellaston Fields will build on the exceptional reputation of other Spencer primary academies in Derby, including the nationally regarded Wyndham Primary Academy.

An ‘outstanding’ Ofsted school, Wyndham is located in neighbouring Alvaston, and is home to the Derby Research School. Staff at the Research School support education research and the sharing of best practice across the city.

Spencer Director of Primary Education Angela O’Brien said she was enjoying every step of designing a new school. “Chellaston Fields is an opportunity to build the school around the children’s needs,” she explained. “We are very excited to work with Derbyshire County Council and bring to life the plans that have been with us on paper for over a year. The opportunity to choose the classroom designs and colours is exciting and also an honour. We aim to make Chellaston Fields a wonderful environment to explore and implement our core principles and curriculum to deliver an outstanding school to the community”

Laurie Baczynski has been appointed as the Principal designate, after 13 years at Spencer’s Fairfield Primary Academy. Mrs Baczynski said: ‘I’m really pleased and excited to be leading the opening of Chellaston Fields, and can’t wait to show school plans to some of our prospective parents and children.”

A consultation process on the plans opens 16 March, and will close May 4th, giving local parents and stakeholders an opportunity to have a voice during the planning stage. Details are available through a dedicated website at www.chellastonfieldsacademy.co.uk.

Prospective parents will have the opportunity to meet Mrs Baczynski and Mrs O’Brien – and to register their interest in places at Chellaston Fields – at an open day to be held on 23 April at 10am and 5pm. The open days will be held at Wyndham Primary Academy on Wyndham Street. Places at the open day can be booked through the Chellaston Fields website.

Laurie Baczynski said that she was looking at ways to ensure that the school’s first intake would be properly celebrated in September 2019.

“Although we have plenty of ideas, if you have suggestions to make our first year even more special, or would otherwise like to secure a place at Chellaston Fields Spencer Academy, do get in touch.”
