Future Teaching Scholars

The Future Teaching Scholars (FTS) programme is a new and exciting route into teaching. It is designed for exceptional students who plan to study a Maths or Physics-related degree at university, and interested in exploring a career in teaching after graduation.

Scholars receive a £15k grant toward the costs of their university study, and are offered a placement on a salaried Initial Teacher Training (ITC) course. They receive tailored personal and professional development support for six years, and complete the programme with Qualified Teacher Status.

In return for the £15k award, trainees are expected to teach for two years in a state-funded secondary school, and to become an ambassador for the extended Future Teaching Scholars programme.

Spencer has over thirty young people in the current FTS programme, constituting more than 30% of the total Future Teaching Scholars cohort across country.
