Become a Governor

Local Governing Bodies

Academies within trust are linked to an LGB, which operates as a scrutiny sub-committee of the Board of Trustees (known internally as the Board of Directors).

Local governing bodies play an important role in supporting the work of the trust through their responsibility for scrutiny and improvement. As a critical friend to senior leadership teams in academies, local governing bodies work to ensure that delivery in schools is of the highest standard, and that SAT academies consistently deliver against agreed goals.

Information on the membership, responsibilities and mandated sub-committees of LGBs is held in the trust Scheme of Delegation.

Shape the future of a Spencer Academy

Our local governing bodies are made up of representative members of the school community. Chosen for a mixture of skills and competencies, they play an important role which includes supporting the Board of Directors with their broader responsibility for governance across the Spencer Academies Trust.

Together, we deliver on the Spencer Academies Trust mission: to provide an outstanding quality of education and improve the life chances of children across the East Midlands.

With thousands of children in Spencer primary and secondary academies across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, we are looking for dedicated individuals who want to make a difference in the lives of children. Recruitment is open on a rolling basis trust wide, with current vacancies advertised below.

Particularly, we are looking for governors able to offer expertise in one of the following areas: finance, human resources, community relations and communications, safeguarding, and governance.

If you have skills in one of these areas and would like to be considered for membership of a local governing body in a Spencer Academy, please register your interest below.
